Questionable Discussion

Not sure what to title it yet.

So, I recently came across a Manwha (Korean comic) that literally depicted this scenario.

The world:

Basically there are two ability users: Acquired and Innate.

Acquired Ability users are people who, through training and experience, gained superhuman capabilities. This may involve studying martial arts, understanding the movement of Ki or archery, able to shoot targets beyond that of an Olympic athlete. With that said, there are many acquired ability users, but few know that they are  unless they are exposed to the world of Innate ability users.

Innate ability users are people who, since birth or unforseen circumstances, may have  an ability or talent. It can manifest at any age. It is said some "higher being" or "Gaia" may have bestowed these gifts. These include pyrokinesis, ESP, etc. However, if such people use their gifts in malevolent ways or affect people against their will, i.e. destroy a building in front of people watching, cause two people to fall in love, win the lottery, the "upper being" or "Gaia" will take measures to dispose of your ability. This involves having a van accidentally hit you, burglar to accidentally kill you, bill board accidentally collapse on you.

With that said, The Gamer ability is an innate ability. Game addicts who experienced a traumatic past, may be bestowed this gift.
The world will become like a video game, where tasks and activities will be presented as alerts.
Name, level, class, and title will be displayed if applicable. However, if level is too high/ unknown, it will be displayed as ???. Same for class and title.

Ability has EXP and will level up when EXP reaches a certain point value.
Non-Gamers cannot see any of these windows displayed.

Things going to explained in the future:
Everything for the Gamer will be denoted by a numerical value. Hp/Mp, STR, VIT, DEX, INT, WIS,  LUK, Stamina. These will be displayed on a Status Window.

However, non-Gamers will not be tied to this, because they are not a Gamer. They have no EXP or stats. Their only numerical values will be Level and HP/MP - the two things you see in most video-games. Additionally, Level is only a rough indication of how strong someone is, an attempt from Gaia/God to place a numerical value on someone's strength.
There will be a skill, introduced soon/later, called Observe. This will allow the Gamer to view one's HP/MP, LVL, and short explanation.
This will be only applicable to monsters/creatures, as one can see anyone's LVL, name, class, and title generally.

The Gamer has an inventory - a space in a different dimension to store items and equipment. No time passes in this space, so if you store a cold soda, it will remain cold hours later. However, you cannot store things in motion, such as a flying bullet. I do not know if you can store pets/mounts as this manwha is relatively starting.

Practically every special location is an Instance Dungeon for the Gamer. A lecture hall may apply a buff of +20% INT, -50% LUK. Hospitals may apply +100% HP regeneration, -50% DMG reduction.

Ability users can all create an Instance Dungeon, though it will be called a Mirage Barrier. This alternate dimension will allow ability users to use their ability to the utmost strength, without affecting the real world.

This will be an action orientated RPG - literally. HAHA!
Anyone can join, as an innate ability user, acquired ability user, or a Gamer.
Though I do ask that that fellow Gamers do not introduce any new concepts prior to my character unless passed through me, as I'm still working out all the kinks with the appearances. >_<.

Interesting! I hope I didn't write anything that conflicts with your rules, since I wrote my post before you posted this xD I just assumed every character is a "gamer" before you posted this.

Anyway, with this in place I guess Toby is totally a gamer, and Cynthia doesn't have a clue what's going on but she'll become an acquired-ability user as the plot progresses. Can her powers somehow involve horses? And then Toby does some Gamer-thing to turn her horse into a pegusus? Because that would be neat xP

I don't think so. Things change/modify to incorporate the Gamer's ability - Items are allowed to be placed into an inventory, not the Gamer causes items to be placed in an inventory.

However, this world involves the supernatural and the surreal. Perhaps some mad scientist fuses an eagle/horse chimera that you happen to befriend?

Toby uses Tame (Lvl 10)!
Pegasus's affection to Toby increases.
Toby befriends Pegasus.

I'll update these tables and make them much cleaner. It's just really late right now...

An annoying glitch is that when you preview yer post, if you have colored your table, it will revert it back to normal. Additionally, there will be no space below your table. I don't know why. I suggest adding the colors right before you press "Send". Or, copy + paste the code into word/notepad, edit the materials needed, then re-paste before adding.

I think there is a way to fix it, just give me some time... yea... =\.

The reason why table fatness is Alert > Instance > Quest is mainly just me playing around with it. Do you guys/Nayaby have a preferred fatness? 4/6/8. Or, do you want to keep it different depending on the type of pop-up?

Can't seem to get this color thing working. Guess you just gotta add it as the last step.

Please ask any questions, leave any suggestions, comment about the looks, etc. I probably made a mistake somewhere, so yea! >_<

Sorry for the very late response. Had all my finals pile up on me. Squeezed this post right before packing to move out and go back home.

The manwha is called The Gamer btw. Read it on mangahere. Chapter 15 just got released! :O

Haha, I understand! I'm done my in-class finals as of yesterday morning, but I still have a paper to finish xP I'll get to writing a reply for the RP soon, but not tonight. I kind of need to focus on my paper! I also have an MRI in downtown Toronto tomorrow, so gotta take the train and then the subway. Much fun (not)!

Nested spoiler tags are unfortunately beyond me (well, maybe not but sooooo much effooooort...), so I don't think I'll be posting inventory screens. But I'm kind of intrigued about The Gamer, so I think I'll check it out sometime. A friend of mine recently made me marathon Sword Art Online, which is now one of my favourite things ever, but I should have been studying for exams sooooo xP But I totally did fine on my Public Law exam. Only four freaking essays. 700 words each. Freaking 2800 words in 3 hours that are somehow supposed to form coherent sentences! But I actually think I got at least a B on that, so I'm pretty darn happy.

Thanks for the compliment on my writing ^_^ I joined up with a creative writing club because I'm terrible and don't get anything done unless I'm committed to someone else. For similar reasons I'm a great person to be grouped with for group projects, but I always leave my solo work until the last night! I don't see how you're any more straightforward than I am though. Sure, I sneaked in a Tim Horton's, but that's nationalism talking. It's not bad to be straightforward though. Purple prose needs to be limited, or else you end up with an incoherent, garbled up, booger.

Unless you're Tolkien, but he's on a whole 'nother level.

Meh; the inventory screen was mainly for the RPG. If not needed, I can make it go poof. My character is going to use a weapon reel later on, found in many FPS games.

Yesh, go type away. On the essay, not the RP.

I apologize, the holiday break has been hectic for me. I haven't even touched my novel in the last couple weeks :/

Classes start for me again on Monday, which will actually help me out in that I'll spend more time writing (via procrastination) so that's a plus. I'll write a reply for the RP in the next hour or so. Scout's honour!

Since this part was told from Cynthia's POV I didn't delve into Toby's reasoning behind insisting he's alright. He's kind of confused right now, but not particularly keen on having to explain his fainting spells to a nurse.

Also, I don't know if Cynthia seems overprotective or anything. That's not supposed to be her defining character trait in any way. It's just that it's a perfectly reasonable way to react when somebody close to you starts fainting. It would be unrealistic for her to act in any other way, honestly. She'll definitely show more interesting characterization when she's put in new circumstances. I promise she's not overprotective or crazy xP
